During ESICM LIVES 2023, Mindray supported ESICM in launching the 3G (Giant Great Grant) project—a three-year initiative with a dedicated fund to support outstanding research into ICU patient safety. Earlier this year, the society announced the winner of the 3G grant after reviewing numerous competitive proposals: the groundbreaking project of “Smart Alarm Management for Enhanced Patient Monitoring and Increased Data-driven Patient Safety: A Machine Learning Approach (SAFEMIND)”.
Led by Dr. Anne Rike Flint and Dr. Sakira-Sebastian Poncette from Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, this innovative project seeks to develop a smart monitoring system that enhances staff situational awareness, reduces alarm fatigue, and ultimately increases patient safety.
At this year's ESICM LIVES, we had the honor of engaging in an in-depth discussion with Dr. Anne Rike Flint, one of the project members, during the Mindray TV slot. Joining her were Dr. Fiona Niu and Prof. Elie Azoulay, who provided valuable insights into the issue of alarm fatigue in the ICU, and a unified approach among industry, researchers, and healthcare professionals in boosting technological and clinical advancement.
